To the media - and beyond - he is the epitome of drumnbass. Spokesman, mentor, star, leader, legend. Admittedly, this is a highly simplified view of the genre, but it has its obvious reasons. While the other producers and DJs are releasing some EP or playing at some party, Goldie is hosting banquets in Hollywood, hiring dozens of orchestras, dating Björk, spreading his manifestos, playing in movies, getting in trouble with the police, writing a book, gritting his gold teeth - in a word, making more noise around himself than all the rest of the drumnbass team put together.
The Metalheadz label was founded in 1994 by Goldie, Ronnie Randallem, and two DJs from the early hardcore scene - Fabio and Grooverider. The Angel EP they released was one of the first records to invoke the artistic description of techno in the mid-1990s, before the new terms jungle or junglist were invented to describe their work - combining dub and frenetic breakbeats.
