Tromsø, the largest city in northern Norway, lies beyond the Arctic Circle and has become famous as a base for Amundsen's polar expeditions and the birthplace of one of the world's most famous electronic bands - the duo Röyksopp. It was here, while still in elementary school, that Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland met and began making music together even then.
With their saved pocket money they bought their first drum machine. They took their name from a variety of mushrooms found in their country.
As they joke today - the name of their band is quite often mispronounced, because they deliberately put a Swedish letter in a difficult Norwegian word. And although they've been composing since the early 1990s, it wasn't until 2001 that they released their debut album - a well-received CD entitled "Melody AM." The album featured such hits as "Poor Leno," "Sparks," "Eple" and "So Easy."
Röyksopp does not limit itself to one style - in the band's work you can hear references to synth pop, house music, ambient or broad electronic music. The group has 8 albums to its credit, three of which, signed Profound Mysteries, were released in 2022.
Röyksopp will perform for the first time at SnowFest Festival!
